SERVICE: A Trilogy on Colonization di Martha Rosler è un libro d'artista pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1978 da Printed Matters (New York). Consiste in tre brevi novelle – di cui la terza tradotta anche in spagnolo – che esplorano i diversi aspetti della produzione e del consumo alimentare, con l'umorismo freddo che contraddistingue l'espressione artistica di Martha Rosler. Le novelle nella loro forma originale, prima di essere redatte in questo raro libro, sono state spedite per posta dall'artista stessa, sotto forma di cartoline, una ogni cinque o sette giorni. Le storie delle tre protagoniste, incentrate sul tema del cibo, confermano la sua attenzione sul tema della gastronomia e delle pratiche sociali in materia alimentare, raccontate attraverso un approccio "femminile" e politico. Come spesso accade nelle opere di Martha Rosler – vedi Semiotics of the Kitchen del 1975 – e coerentemente con la sua ideologia femminista, la cucina diventa un'arena in cui destrutturare il ruolo tradizionale della donna. L'edizione postmedia books è una stampa anastatica corrispondente alla prima stampa originale del 1978, un edizione limitata con l'aggiunta del testo a fronte in italiano.
SERVICE: A Trilogy on Colonization written by Martha Rosler, is an artist's book published for the first time in 1978 by Printed Matters (New York). It consists of three short stories – the third of which also translated in spanish – exploring the different aspects of food production and consumption, with the deadpan humour that distinguishes Martha Rosler's art expression. The stories in their original form, before being edited in this rare book, have been mailed by the artist herself, as a series of postcards, one every five or seven days. The stories of the three female characters, based on the food subject, confirm the artist's awareness about gastronomy and social practices governing food, narrated through a "feminine" and political approach. As often happens in Rosler's performances - among the best known the video Semiotics of the Kitchen (1975) – and coherently with her feminist ideology, the kitchen becomes an arena for deconstructing the traditional role of women. The edition by postmedia books is an anastatic print of the first Printed Matter print, a limited edition including the italian translation next to the original text.

Martha Rosler is one of the most important personalities of the art scene from the sixties until today. In her pioneering and avant-guard work she made use of different media: from video to photography, from installation to performance, to photographic-text and incisive pieces of writing. Her work has regularly involved the social life as well as the public field, often expressing clear-cut positions regarding subjects such as feminism and war. Her artworks are in the collections of the most important international museums among which: the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Generali Foundation in Vienna.
